Wood insert fireplaces are a very specific type of fireplace that are designed to be installed into a wood burning fireplace. If you have an old brick chimney with a wood burning fireplace, or an old pre-fabricated wood burning fireplace with a minimum of an 8" chimney on top of it, then a wood insert would be an ideal solution. Wood inserts cannot be installed in any other application. Wood inserts can be straight forward to install but the actual dimension of your flue tiles and firebox opening will dictate which type and size of insert you can install. Furthermore, wood inserts installed on an upper floor will often require a chimney extension to be installed above in order for the correct amount of draft to be created. A WETT Report is often required by your insurance company if you have a solid fuel burning appliance (a wood stove for example) in your home. In order to issue a WETT report, a WETT certified inspector will need to conduct a site visit and examine the installation of your appliance and compare that with the manufacturer's requirements and current building codes.
